Job Title: Lead Engineer Location: Portsmouth Region Job Type: Permanent, Full-time (38 hours per week)

Company Overview I am seeking a Lead Engineer to provide critical support to the Engineering Manager in delivering a major infrastructure project. This role involves managing design reviews, overseeing technical queries, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and contractual timelines. You will take ownership of specific engineering work packages, act as the technical lead on smaller components, and ensure accurate data is available for contractors. Collaboration with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders will be central to securing alignment on solutions and strengthening engineering assurance systems and processes.

The Role As Lead Engineer, you will manage design coordination and technical assurance across the project. You’ll chair meetings and workshops with design teams, contractors, and operations, ensuring alignment of solutions and resolution of technical queries. This role also requires producing reports, engineering papers, and forecasts to support governance and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Chair meetings with Design Guardians to track progress and resolve issues. Manage responses to technical queries and design submissions from contractors. Monitor and assess Design Guardian performance against KPIs. Coordinate requests on engineering matters between the client and contractors. Lead collaborative planning with contractors and chair workshops to align solutions. Provide engineering input at Early Warning meetings and technical reviews. Deliver regular updates and reports to the Engineering Manager on progress, risks, and forecasts. Key Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering-related discipline. Proven experience in design management within major infrastructure projects. Strong knowledge of the design process and its commercial implications. Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to coordinate multiple parties and deliver results under pressure.
