Your Role

Capgemini Engineering is looking for a dynamic, team-focused High Performance Materials Engineer with a focus on composite materials to join the existing team. Your role will be to support operations of both industry leading and new emergent companies in the aerospace sector.

Hybrid working: the places you work from day to day will vary according to your role, needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and providing materials design guidance from first principles, covering predominantly:
  • Composite materials / Reinforced Plastic
  • Aluminium – tempers/conditions, surface treatments, applications
  • Titanium – surface treatments, applications
  • Adhesive bonding
  • Mechanical fastening
  • Support material selection and certification activities
  • Defining, planning and executing test campaigns in support of the above
  • Create and maintain material compatibility and surface protection practices and manuals
  • Develop Material Specifications to ensure materials meet required performance, quality, and compliance standards for production
  • Manage and generate relevant documentation for the Technical Qualification of materials
  • Generate Manufacturing Engineering process instructions (Assembly principals, Sealant and anti-corrosion, Process validation)

Qualifications

Your skills and experience

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or other relevant fields with specialization in composites

Experience

  • Experience in aerospace engineering with a focus on composite materials is desirable
  • Experience in managing and generating documentation for material qualification and certification procedures
  • Experience in developing and implementing manufacturing process specifications and material specifications
  • High competence in at least one of the above technical areas, with demonstrable ability across the remaining areas desirable

Relevant Skills

  • Strong knowledge of materials science, including composite materials, material compatibility, surface protection practices, and material qualification processes
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage Jira boards and coordinate with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with the core team and external stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and the ability to generate precise and comprehensive documentation
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project needs and priorities

Your Security Clearance

To be successfully appointed to this role you will need to undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard checks. There are no nationality or residency restrictions, although if you have resided outside of the UK within the last 3 years, further checks may be required. You will be asked questions about your security clearance eligibility during the recruitment process.

This role involves the development and application of engineering practice and knowledge in the following technologies: design of mechanical systems, devices, equipment and machines; installing and maintaining mechanically functioning equipment; simulating a wide range of interactions and evaluating performance in real-world scenarios; and developing prototypes for manufacturability, testing and validation.
