Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer\n Location: Birmingham\n Department: Engineering & Quality\n Reporting to: Head of Engineering\n\nA fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a forward-thinking engineering team, supporting a wide range of complex projects within the automotive remanufacturing sector. This role is ideal for a creative and technically skilled individual who enjoys problem-solving and contributing to product development, reverse engineering, and production optimisation.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nLead the creation of 3D concept designs using CAD software.\nProduce detailed technical drawings for manufacture, including geometric tolerancing.\nCreate assembly drawings and manage Bills of Materials (BoMs).\nStandardise design principles to ensure consistency and quality.\nPerform basic FEA analysis to validate component suitability.\nSelect and maintain CAD PLM software for drawing control.\nValidate designs using engineering measurement tools (e.g. vernier, micrometer, CMM).\nResolve design-related issues quickly while maintaining quality standards.\nLiaise with customers to resolve technical and delivery issues.\nCollaborate with applications engineers and production teams to improve efficiency and FTPR.\nWork with suppliers on component design and manufacturing support.\nIdentify new manufacturing suppliers as needed.\nMaintain product BoMs within ERP systems.Requirements:\n\nBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.\nMinimum 5 years' experience in mechanical design using CAD software (e.g.
SolidWorks, Catia).\nExperience in pneumatic and hydraulic system design is desirable.\nSkilled in creating 3D models, technical drawings, and assembly documentation.\nFamiliarity with BoM management and reverse engineering.\nKnowledge of GD&T and relevant ISO standards.\nExperience with CAD PLM systems and FEA analysis is advantageous.\nPrevious experience in a remanufacturing environment is a plus.\nProficient in using manual and electronic measurement tools.\nStrong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.\nCompetent in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).This is a great opportunity for someone looking to make a real impact on the technical direction and future roadmap of a growing engineering business
