Overview
Mechanical Maintenance Technician at Watt People Ltd (UK/USA) with a focus on leading a maintenance team through significant site upgrades. The role combines hands-on fault finding with leadership, planning, and driving improvements as the site undergoes £5 million of investment over 5 years.
Location: City of London area. Typical schedule: Monday to Friday, 6am–2pm. This is a gas canister filling site with a robust, real-world engineering environment.
This role reports to Watt People Ltd, assisting manufacturing businesses in finding the right Engineering and Technical professionals.
Responsibilities
- Leading and motivating a small, skilled maintenance team on-site.
- Fault finding, repairs, and condition monitoring across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
- Managing the planned maintenance schedule to keep operations running smoothly.
- Overseeing new equipment installations and supporting major site upgrades.
- Ensuring safety procedures (and Permit to Work systems) are followed down to the last detail.
- Collaborating with contractors, suppliers, and operations teams to maintain momentum.
What you bring to the table
- A Level 4 Apprenticeship (or equivalent trade experience) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation disciplines.
- At least 2 years of experience maintaining plant equipment in a heavy-duty environment (manufacturing, industrial, or engineering).
- Ability to lead others and respond effectively in challenging situations.
- Comfort with a noisy, gritty environment and enthusiasm for upgrading outdated equipment.
- Bonus if you’ve worked in explosive atmospheres or hold an ATEX qualification.
