About The Role


Are you ready to make a strategic impact in sonar expertise and project delivery? We’re looking for a Senior Sonar Specialist who will play a pivotal role in supporting BMT’s planning and operations. You’ll demonstrate and maintain deep expertise in sonar, applying your knowledge to meet client needs and provide tailored advice. You’ll collaborate with other specialists where appropriate, recognising the boundaries of your own expertise to ensure the advice is comprehensive and client-focused.



You’ll define, document and deliver small projects or sub-projects independently or as part of a small team, involved in all delivery phases, working with the Project Manager to agree approach, identify and manage risks, support practical project plans, monitor progress, and manage stakeholder engagement.



About You


You’re a team player with a passion for sonar and mission systems. You bring specialist knowledge and hands-on experience in the operation, design, procurement, and support of Sonar and Mission Systems infrastructure. You have clear communication, diplomacy and discretion when engaging with colleagues and clients. You have sharp analytical mind to interpret complex data and make evidence-based decisions. Understanding MOD processes relevant to Sonar and Mission Systems helps navigate defence environments.



It Would Be Great If You Also Have



  • A degree in Physics or Electronics/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience (e.g., Royal Navy Warrant Officer/Senior Rating WE/WESM or pre/post Charge WE/WESM Officer).

  • Membership of a relevant professional body and aiming for chartered status.

  • Experience leading Sonar Operator/Sensor Employment tasks and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

  • Proven competence in sonar design and operation, measurement and analysis, or modelling.

  • Familiarity with MOD Abbey Wood or MOD Corsham.
