This role will require Security Clearance, to be eligible you must be a British born sole national and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.

About The Role

Are you ready to make a strategic impact in sonar expertise and project delivery?

We’re looking for a Senior Sonar Specialist who will play a pivotal role in supporting BMT’s planning and operations. You’ll demonstrate and actively maintain deep expertise in sonar, applying your knowledge to meet client needs and provide detailed, specific advice.

In this role, you’ll define, document and deliver small projects or sub-projects either independently or as part of a small team. You’ll be involved in all phases of delivery, working closely with the Project Manager to agree the approach, identify and manage risks, support the development of practical project plans, monitor progress against schedules, and manage stakeholder engagement.

About You

You’re an enthusiastic team player with a passion for sonar and mission systems. You bring specialist knowledge and hands-on experience in the operation, design, procurement, and support of Sonar and Mission Systems infrastructure.

You have a sharp analytical mind and can quickly interpret complex data to make structured, evidence-based decisions. Your understanding of MOD business processes relevant to Sonar and Mission Systems enables you to navigate defence environments effectively.

  • A degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Physics, Electronic/Electrical Engineering), or equivalent experience such as service as a Royal Navy Warrant Officer/Senior Rating WE/WESM maintainer or pre/post Charge WE/WESM Officer.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body and are working towards chartered status.
  • Experience leading Sonar Operator/Sensor Employment tasks and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proven competence in sonar design and operation, measurement and analysis, or modelling.
  • Familiarity with working at MOD Abbey Wood or MOD Corsham.
