Venture-backed quantum hardware startup.
Work closely with some of the brightest minds in quantum engineering.
Patented technology & a world-leader in their field.
We’ve teamed up with an award-winning quantum hardware startup, who enable secure encryption through harnessing the power of photonics and quantum mechanics. As one of the UK’s many university spinout success stories, they’re currently a team of 25, made up of specialists in quantum physics, firmware, hardware and software. Due to continued growth, they’re looking to hire an Optoelectronics Engineer to bolster their engineering capability.
They are based in Oxford, with a hybrid working policy. You should expect to be in the office 2-3 days a week, though there is flexibility where necessary.
Qualifications
- Proven background in electronics/photonics, ideally with a relevant technical qualification
- Skilled in analogue & high-speed digital electronics (circuit design, PCB etc.).
- Familiar with PCB design software like Altium, Cadence or Allegro.
- Well-versed in photonic device integration with laser diodes, splitters, amplifiers.
- R&D driven, comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Any awareness of quantum computing, photonics or cryptography would be useful.
Responsibilities
This position is involved from PoC design to product. You would bridge photonics & electronics, supporting the design & development of optoelectronic components, including PICs, photodetectors, laser drivers and control electronics. You’ll contribute to prototyping, working with fiber-optic systems, mechanical assembly and optoelectronic testing. As well as that, you’ll be accountable for creating and executing tests for functional optoelectronic device qualification. Lots of variety in a start-up environment, with fantastic scope for internal progression depending on your ambitions!
Benefits
As well as a competitive salary in line with your experience, the team are advocates for flexible working and try to accommodate all personal circumstances where they can. Their benefits package is also tailored, giving you a £3K annual allowance to choose the benefits that suit you best. You’ll be entitled to 25 days holiday (plus bank hols), a healthy pension scheme, potential share options and the chance to join a pioneer in secure encryption in its early stages!
