Overview
We are recruiting a Principal Infrastructure/Civil Engineer to join our expanding Infrastructure Engineering team in Bristol. The role involves delivering a high-quality service, thinking creatively, and adopting a collaborative approach to developing pragmatic and innovative design solutions to the technical challenges of land development. The individual should have experience leading projects and teams, while also being comfortable getting hands-on with the technical design and production of drawings and documentation.
Responsibilities
Lead in the production of residential or general infrastructure development schemes, including highways, drainage, levels and plot engineering.
Take an independent holistic lead role on major projects, managing and prioritising workload for junior team members.
Design using relevant best practice and guidance (e.g., Manual for Streets, Design and Construction Guidance, CIRIA SuDS Manual, Sewerage Sector Guidance, Building Regulations, Local Authority design standards).
Prepare drawings and calculations for private and adoptable arrangements and obtain approvals (e.g., watercourse consent, S104 and S38 technical approvals).
Utilise AutoCAD, 3D modelling (Civils3D or similar), and drainage modelling software (Causeway Flow or similar).
Manage non-technical aspects such as contracts, financials, programme, resourcing, and client-facing activities.
Contribute to residential development schemes from concept to construction with a pragmatic consultancy/private sector background.
Demonstrate effective organisational and communication skills and a collaborative approach.
Hold a full driving licence and have access to a car.
Qualifications and Experience
BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering or related subject plus 6+ years relevant postgraduate experience; ideally Chartered or Incorporated (e.g., ICE).
Proven ability to lead in production of infrastructure schemes with experience in highways, drainage, levels, and plot engineering.
Experience leading major projects and collaborating with others while managing junior staff.
Proficient in design using standards such as Manual for Streets, Design and Construction Guidance, CIRIA SuDS Manual, Sewerage Sector Guidance, Building Regulations, and Local Authority standards.
Experience preparing drawings and calculations for private and adoptable works and obtaining approvals from water bodies and authorities (S104/S38).
Numerate and software literate with AutoCAD, Civils3D or similar, and drainage modelling software.
Experience with contract management, financials, programme, resourcing, and client-facing responsibilities.
Consultancy/private sector development background with an understanding of residential development from concept to construction.
