Overview
Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a passion for creating sustainable solutions? Join Stantec and help tackle our communities\' urgent climate, environmental, and efficiency challenges. We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join us in our office in Leeds or Cambridge. With hybrid working allowing a combination of in-office and home working, this role would suit an experienced Mechanical Engineer who wants to take their next step in their career within an industry-leading consultancy by working on exciting projects in the water sector.
Across Stantec, we are building on a highly successful period of growth. We enable the delivery of sustainable development and infrastructure projects that adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. We are also responding to the current ecological crisis in the UK by designing infrastructure that conforms to the Eel Regulations 2009.
Most importantly, you will embody and support our values of client focus, designing with community in mind, collaboration and service excellence.
Responsibilities
As part of this role, you will be involved in the whole project life cycle from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support including site surveys and investigations. You will be responsible for working and liaising with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners, and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for the projects and community. You will also manage and guide more junior team members and help with their development. You will provide engineering input to design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines, such as General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Control Philosophies, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams. You will deliver technical presentations to clients and other design engineers, contribute to collaborative design discussions and workshops (including safety reviews, HAZOPs and ALMs), and support the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and development of junior engineers. You will understand how lowland drainage pumping stations operate and gain experience in assessing existing site infrastructure to develop and deliver the mechanical design. You will have awareness of the Eel Regulations 2009 and their implications on flood and coastal pumping stations. You will also have, or be open to developing, experience within the energy, infrastructure & water sectors in a mechanical engineering capacity.
About You / Qualifications
The successful candidate will be an experienced Mechanical Engineer who is ideally chartered with the IMechE, has experience in mechanical design, and is ideally experienced with pump station optioneering, design, construction management, and commissioning. You will be experienced in producing and reviewing technical outputs such as technical specifications and reports, sizing and designing pumping systems and water systems, schedules, be familiar with collaborative planning reviews and designs of solutions, and providing construction and commissioning services. You will be able to provide engineering input to design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines and be comfortable with presenting to clients and teams. You will also be able to provide technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and support the development of junior engineers. A strong understanding of lowland drainage pumping stations and the implications of the Eel Regulations 2009 is preferred, as is experience in the energy, infrastructure & water sectors.
Preferences: Chartered status (IMechE) and experience with pumping systems, water networks, and related design and commissioning activities.
