OverviewJoin Jacobs in Manchester, United Kingdom as a Principal Protection & Control (P&C) Design Engineer - UK Grid Network. You will be part of the Transmission & Distribution team working on high‑profile infrastructure projects, including HVDC, interconnectors, wind farms and substations, delivering smart, sustainable protection and control designs.ResponsibilitiesDesign protection and control systems for electrical substations up to 400 kV for Transmission & Distribution clients.Prepare single line diagrams, key line diagrams, and interlocking schemes based on project requirements.Develop detailed electrical designs for equipment such as circuit breakers, disconnectors and earth switches.Ensure adherence to quality assurance processes as required.Deliver designs in accordance with contract specifications to the satisfaction of the client.Identify and manage relevant Health and Safety risks and hazards with the project team.Actively develop external and internal client relationships.Ensure adequate resources and training for FEED and detailed design work for National Grid, SSEN and other clients.Interface with other disciplines (Civil/Structural, Substations, HV Cables and OHL engineers).QualificationsA degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartered status.Experience in electrical disciplines and in delivering complex multi-disciplinary projects (e.g., Rail or Oil & Gas Refinery).Relevant professional experience in HV and LV systems (33 kV – 400 kV).Experience preparing design calculations, reports, and detailed drawings.
