We are looking for a skilled and motivated Protection and Control Design Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution team. You’ll be working on infrastructure projects in the UK, including HVDC, interconnectors, wind farms, and substations, delivering smart, sustainable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design protection and control systems for electrical substations up to 400kV for Transmission & Distribution clients.
  • Prepare single line diagrams, key line diagrams, and interlocking schemes based on project requirements.
  • Develop detailed electrical designs for equipment such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, and earth switches.
  • Follow quality assurance processes to meet requirements and ensure designs are delivered in accordance with contract and client specifications.
  • Identify and manage Health and Safety risks with the project team.
  • Develop external and internal client relationships.
  • Ensure adequate resources and training for FEED and detailed design work for National Grid, SSEN, and other clients.
  • Interface with Civil/Structural, Substations, HV Cables and OHL engineers.

Requirements

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartered status.
  • Experience in electrical discipline and delivering complex multi-disciplinary projects (e.g., Rail or Oil & Gas Refinery).
  • Experience with HV and LV systems (33kV - 400kV).
  • Experience preparing design calculations, reports, and detailed drawings. CAD (AutoCAD or MicroStation) preferred but not essential.
