Base Location: Scotland (Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness). Salary: £50,100 - £64,100 + car / cash allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available.

Role: As part of the SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works, we are recruiting for a Project Engineer - Interfaces to join the HVDC Engineering Team. With several major HVDC projects underway, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in one of the UK’s most important energy infrastructure programmes.

Note: While direct HVDC experience is advantageous, it is not essential. We encourage candidates with a project engineering background, ideally with an electrical, civil or mechanical engineering background, in the energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering design interfaces across major HVDC packages, including civils, AC systems, and cables, ensuring smooth collaboration between all parties.
  • Take ownership of the Design Interface Registers, working with contractors to align inputs, resolve design issues early, and maintain accurate project data.
  • Manage the design submittals process using Autodesk Construction Cloud, ensuring submissions are high-quality, traceable, and delivered on time.
  • Act as a key link between SSEN teams and external partners, providing clear updates on interface risks, progress, and next steps.
  • Champion a positive safety culture and support compliance with CDM regulations and SSEN's engineering standards throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the development of interface management awareness across the project, helping colleagues identify and manage design and quality risks effectively.

Qualifications

  • A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering discipline (preferably electrical, mechanical, or civil). Chartered status or working toward it is desirable.
  • Around 5–7 years’ experience in project engineering or design coordination, ideally with exposure to complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Proven ability to manage interfaces between teams, contractors, and disciplines, with a track record of identifying interface risks early and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Experience supporting or leading elements of multi-disciplinary design coordination, with understanding of design, construction, and programme interdependencies.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with digital collaboration platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) or similar tools for managing design submissions, interface registers, and structured workflows.
