JOB SUMMARY
The Project Engineer works as part of a multi-discipline engineering project team.
The Project Engineer is responsible for the completion of their allocated tasks within the project
team, on time, to specification and within budget. To this end the Project Engineer performs a
variety of tasks including, but not limited to: working to project deadlines, working closely with
clients, manufacturing and other design functions.
The Project Engineer is willing to undertake further education and training to develop and further
their competency levels.
Occasionally, it may be necessary to carry out some of their duties at client sites within the UK,
offshore and internationally.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
All activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, procedures and standards.
Project Engineering
• Develop design work utilising computer-assisted design, AutoCAD and other software as required
• Design systems and equipment in line with UK and international standards and project specifications
• Optimise design and production methods with a view to reduce procurement costs, production time and documentation costs
• Produce drawings to optimise the manufacturing process and minimise costs
• Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM)
• Create, implement and maintain project work plans to meet project requirements
• Check certification of components and materials are in line with project specification
• Peer check colleagues work before issuing for official review
• Minimise risk and exposure on projects
• Manage day to day operational aspects of the projects
• Take part in close out meetings.
Note: All activities are conducted in line with the Ex-Technical File.
Project Documentation
• Produce project and production documentation
• Achieve a reliable and acceptable standard of planning, project and production documentation at the first attempt
• Maintain project files.
Other Duties
• Assist in preparation of documentation / drawings for project tender
• Prioritise own workload in order to meet project / business needs
• Develop and maintain key contacts both internally and externally
• General duties as delegated within the overall range of the post.
JOB CONTEXT & KEY CHALLENGES
The job forms part of a team working in the Projects Engineering department reporting to the Projects Manager, carrying out a variety of complex design application, which requires interpretation of specifications in line with regulatory and quality standards.
Key contacts are within the projects engineering and manufacturing departments up to Projects Manager level and with external clients and suppliers.
Key challenges include:
• Developing and maintain effective working relationships with key contacts
• Maintain awareness of current trends and developments within profession
• Generating ideas for improved work procedures
• Performing work in context of overall department and project priorities.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
The job holder should normally hold as a minimum:
Qualification Framework (NQF) Level 4 Qualifications or equivalent which must include:
2 years’ experience working in a Project Engineering role
Or
Qualification Framework (NQF) Level 3 Qualifications or equivalent which must include:
3 years’ experience working in a Project Engineering role
