The Role:
We are looking for a passionate Backend QA Engineer who will bring new ideas, energy, and a proactive mindset to help raise the bar for QA, both within the team and across the wider group. You will join a high-performing team of 5 Developers and 1 QA (this role). You\'ll help shape the evolution of gbp into a world-class platform, ensuring quality and stability across our fast-paced, multi-brand environment. You\'ll work closely with engineers, product teams, and stakeholders across multiple locations to deliver reliable, high-quality backend services.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and execute both manual and automated tests
- Ensure product requirements are testable and validated
- Provide insights into product quality and improvements to QA processes
- Support and collaborate with developers on quality-focused practices
- Contribute across the full development lifecycle
- Offer creative and pragmatic solutions to testing challenges
What We're Looking For
Technical Skills:
- Proven QA experience in complex backend systems
- Strong automation and manual testing expertise
- Solid understanding of service-oriented architectures and APIs (REST)
- Experience with Java or similar languages
- Familiarity with test-driven development (e.g. BDD, ATDD)
- Experience with Git and CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
- Experience with build/config tools (e.g. CHEF) is a plus
Soft Skills & Competencies:
- Strong communicator, verbally and in writing, with a proactive mindset
- Proactively owns and drives all aspects of QA on behalf of the team
- You can establish collaborative relationships with members of the development community inside and outside of your own delivery team, underpinned by trust, integrity, and respect
- You understand and appreciate different and opposing perspectives on an issue, and you are able to adapt your approach in order to achieve a successful outcome.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Able to mentor, coach, and support quality practices in the team
- Collaborates effectively in cross-functional, fast-paced environments
- Values clean code, pragmatic solutions, and continuous improvement
- Owns the creation and execution of comprehensive test plans that provide efficient and pragmatic test coverage in support of the overall project objectives.
