We're working with a leading manufacturer of electrical control panels and switchboards in Newmarket, seeking an electrically biased Sales Engineer to strengthen their commercial team. This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in electrical engineering who enjoys working closely with customers to deliver tailored technical solutions.

The Role

As a Sales Engineer, you'll act as the key link between customers and the internal engineering teams - translating technical requirements into clear, commercially viable proposals. You'll play a vital role in identifying opportunities, developing strong client relationships, and securing new business through accurate quotations and technical support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with customers to understand technical requirements and propose tailored solutions for switchboards, MCCs, and control panels.
  • Prepare detailed and commercially competitive quotations and tenders.
  • Review customer drawings, specifications, and tender documents to define the best solution.
  • Act as the main technical and commercial point of contact throughout the pre-sales process.
  • Collaborate with internal design, production, and procurement teams to ensure proposals are feasible, accurate, and aligned with project needs.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of industry standards (ISO , BS EN, UL/CUL).
  • Support the smooth handover of projects from quotation to fulfilment.
  • Develop long-term customer relationships to drive repeat business and market growth.
  • About You

  • Background in electrical engineering, sales engineering, or applications engineering within control systems or LV distribution.
  • Experience preparing quotations, proposals, or tenders for electrical control panels or related products.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of cost structures.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills - confident discussing both technical and commercial matters.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, layouts, and tender documents.
  • Self-motivated, organised, and capable of managing multiple enquiries simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, or UL standards would be advantageous.
