At Black & White Engineering, we’re building a brand-new acoustics department — and we’re looking for a Senior Acoustics Engineer to take the reins. This is your chance to shape the future of external noise control for data centres, a niche but rapidly growing field that’s critical to global infrastructure.

Please note, this position can be based in our Newcastle, Manchester or Edinburgh office. Whether you’ve worked on data centres before or come from a background in complex commercial buildings, your expertise will be valued. You’ll be the go-to expert, designing solutions that meet international noise regulations using tools like SoundPLAN and CadnaA. From acoustic louvres to perimeter walls, your work will directly influence how major projects come to life.

But this role is about more than technical delivery. You’ll build and lead a team — not just in the UK, but also in our Manila office — and collaborate with top-tier clients and consultants. You’ll have a clear path to Principal or Director-level, with the autonomy to shape your own career and the department’s future. We operate a hybrid working model, with three days a week in our Manchester, Edinburgh, or Newcastle offices - so you can enjoy the flexibility of remote work without the London commute.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of external noise control solutions for data centre projects, using tools such as SoundPLAN and CadnaA.
• Develop concepts for acoustic louvres, perimeter walls, and related systems to meet international noise regulations.
• Build and lead a multidisciplinary team across the UK and Manila offices; collaborate with clients and consultants.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship, with a clear path toward Principal or Director-level roles.
• Contribute to the growth and future direction of the acoustics department.

Qualifications

• Experience on data centre projects or in complex commercial building acoustics.
• Strong expertise in external noise control and regulatory compliance.
• Proficiency with acoustic modelling tools such as SoundPLAN and CadnaA.
• Leadership experience and a track record of cross-office collaboration.
