Senior Civil Engineer \n\nLocation: Birmingham\n\nSalary: £40,000 - £55,000\n\nWe are currently working with a well-established and independently owned engineering consultancy to recruit a Senior Civil Engineer to play a leading role within their Civils Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer to work across a broad portfolio of infrastructure projects, including residential, commercial, and highways schemes.\n\nThe successful candidate will contribute to the design and delivery of a wide variety of projects—from small-scale highway improvements to large, multi-million-pound developments. You will take technical ownership of schemes and have the opportunity to mentor junior staff, shape project delivery, and develop your career in a dynamic and supportive environment.\n\nThe Role\n\nAs a Senior Engineer, you’ll lead the design and delivery of civil engineering projects, including:\n\nAccess junctions (e.g.

roundabouts, signalised junctions, ghost-island right turns, priority junctions)\nSite-wide infrastructure for residential and commercial developments\nHighway improvements and associated drainage strategiesYou’ll ensure that all work is carried out in line with current legislation, local authority policies, and industry best practice, while delivering to the highest technical standards.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nLead the design and technical delivery of infrastructure schemes, from concept through to detailed design\nProduce compliant designs for highways, drainage, and earthworks using 3D modelling tools\nPrepare Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies\nManage technical input across multiple projects simultaneously\nLiaise with clients, local authorities, architects, and stakeholders\nOversee and mentor junior team members\nSupport the preparation of proposals and project bids\nProduce and review technical reports, drawings, and documentation\n\nRequirements:\n\nDegree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline\nIdeally 8+ years' post-graduate experience in civil/infrastructure design within a consultancy environment\nProven experience with Section 278 and Section 38 highway designs, and Section 104 drainage designs\nStrong knowledge of horizontal and vertical road alignment design\nProficiency in design software including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Vehicle Tracking, KeyLINES/SIGN/POST, and MicroDrainage\nExcellent understanding of industry standards such as DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, NRSWA, and others\nExperience of working with Local Authority and Highways design and adoption processes\nGood project management, time management, and record-keeping skills\nAbility to deliver quality work on time and to budget\nStrong communication and report-writing abilities\nExperience mentoring or managing junior engineers or technicians\n\nDesirable:\n\nChartered or working towards Chartered status (ICE, CIHT, CIWEM)\nExperience with active travel or cycling infrastructure schemes\nPublic realm design or major highways experience\nUtilities coordination or site monitoring/supervision experience\nAbility to support with commercial tasks, including proposal preparation
