Allen Lane are pleased to be partnering with the London Borough of Newham to recruit a Senior Infrastructure Engineer on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive, tech-driven local authority and play a central role in the design, delivery and security of cloud infrastructure solutions using Microsoft Azure. You will contribute to the migration, implementation and modernisation of council services to cloud platforms, ensuring best practices are followed for cloud adoption and architecture. Please note that this is a hybrid role, with two days per week required on-site.

As a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will

  • Design, implement, and optimise Microsoft Azure infrastructure, ensuring availability, scalability, and security of council services.
  • Lead the development of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation solutions using tools such as ARM templates, Terraform, PowerShell, and Azure DevOps.
  • Implement and maintain robust cloud security controls, identity management policies, and compliance standards.
  • Manage and optimise cloud costs through monitoring, allocation, and rightsizing recommendations.
  • Provide technical leadership on cloud migration projects, hybrid identity management, disaster recovery, and integration with on-premises environments.
  • Lead on database administration, performance optimisation, and the design of backup and recovery processes.
  • Contribute to agile delivery through DevOps practices, ensuring performance, monitoring, and continuous service improvement.
  • Support and mentor engineers, championing knowledge sharing, collaboration, and professional development.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you must have

  • Strong experience with Microsoft Azure services and architecture, including networking, compute, storage, and monitoring.
  • Expertise in Infrastructure as Code, automation, and DevOps pipelines.
  • A solid understanding of cloud security best practices, compliance requirements, and risk management.
  • Hands-on experience with PowerShell, Azure CLI, and database administration.
  • Knowledge of hybrid cloud solutions and on-premises integration.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach with strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

What you get in return

A salary between £54,267 - £57,402 plus excellent benefits including the Local Government pension scheme.
