About the Role We are looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer

to join a UK engineering consultancy based in Dorset. You will take a lead role in designing and delivering electrical systems for a variety of projects

from commercial and residential buildings to infrastructure, transport, and energy schemes across the UK. You will be embedded in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, working with structural, mechanical, civil, and architectural teams to deliver high quality, sustainable designs. Youll also mentor junior engineers and influence process and technical standards within the firm. Key Responsibilities Lead the full lifecycle of electrical design packages: concept, detailed design, specifications, and design review. Produce and review circuit designs, cable layouts, power distribution, lighting, earthing, protection systems, and control systems in line with UK standards (BS, IEC, etc.). Liaise and coordinate with internal disciplines, external consultants, clients, utility companies, and contractors. Carry out design risk assessments, technical due diligence, and compliance checks. Provide guidance, technical mentorship, and review for junior and mid-level engineers. Oversee design deliverables, schedule, and budget performance for assigned projects. Support site visits and inspection, design validation, and troubleshooting during construction. Help improve internal design processes, standards, library tools, and best practices. About You Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Several years of relevant UK experience in electrical design, ideally in building services, infrastructure, or energy sectors. Proven knowledge of UK building regulations, BS/IEC standards, IET wiring regulations (e.g. BS 7671), etc. Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit (MEP), Dialux, ETAP or similar. Experience with power system studies, load calculations, protective device coordination, earthing, contingencies. Strong communication skills, client handling, and ability to work across disciplines. Leadership mentality and experience mentoring engineers. Chartered status (CEng) or working toward it is desirable.
