  • Lead the resolution of complex technical incidents and problems, owning support tickets, applying expert-level troubleshooting, guiding root cause investigations, and mentoring junior engineers. Take a holistic view that considers wider business requirements and impacts and use this to prioritise workloads for yourself and the team.
  • Champion outstanding customer service and user experience, embedding a user-first approach across support and project activities, and driving continuous improvement in how EUC services are delivered and perceived.
  • Act as a technical champion across End User Computing, supporting modern Windows desktop environments, desktop management, and hardware lifecycle projects. Set best practice standards, guide team members, and lead innovation in EUC technologies and service delivery.
  • Drive process improvement, identifying and implementing opportunities to enhance efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness across support operations. Ensure procedures and documentation are continuously reviewed, updated, and aligned with industry and organisational best practices.
  • Foster team development and technical growth, sharing expertise, supporting training initiatives, and contributing to a culture of continuous learning through hands-on experience, mentoring, and access to funded qualifications.

We operate an on-call roster in Technology to provide 24/7/365 support to respond to operational service requirements. This post may be part of an on-call roster and the postholder would be required to participate in an on-call roster where in operation.

As our Senior End User Computing Engineer, your total reward package will be up to £49,806 annually, which includes:

  • An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%
  • Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) you will be paid £2,200 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2024 until March 2026 in your monthly pay
  • Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave

Essential Criteria, skills and experience

  • We\'re Experts by Nature - Demonstrate experience acting as a technical expert and escalation point across multiple areas of end user computing. Evidence should be provided for at least four of the technical areas listed below.
    • Microsoft 365 & Modern Desktop Management - Supporting M365 services, Intune, Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint and Teams.
    • ITSM Tools & ITIL Framework - Experience using ITSM platforms (e.g ServiceNow) for incident management and operating within an ITIL-aligned service environment.
    • Microsoft Operating Systems - Supporting Windows Clients (10, 11) and Windows Server (2016, 2019, 2022) infrastructure including virtualised environments.
    • Hardware Support - Installing, maintaining, and supporting laptops, mobile devices, printers, and meeting room equipment, including hardware lifecycle activities.
    • Active Directory - Managing Active Directory environments including ADUC, Group Policy, AD object and OU administration.
    • Software Deployment & Lifecycle - Managing software packaging, deployment, and maintenance using tools such as Microsoft Configuration Manager (MCM) and Intune.
    • Asset Management - Maintaining accurate IT asset records and working closely with the Asset Management team to support effective tracking and utilisation across the organisation.
    • Scripting (PowerShell) - Proficient in using PowerShell to automate tasks, support software deployment, and enhance EUC operations through efficient scripting practices.
  • We Keep Evolving - Leads by example in taking ownership of incidents and tasks, applying logical, methodical thinking and strong attention to detail. Brings depth of experience in diagnosing complex technical issues and driving root cause investigations across EUC platforms. Actively identifies opportunities to improve processes, workflows and service delivery, and contributes to the implementation of these enhancements.
  • We\'re Better Together- Demonstrates the ability to work independently to complete tasks and solve problems, while actively collaborating with colleagues across the team and wider support functions. Has a strong track record of mentoring others and sharing knowledge to build team capability and foster a collaborative working environment.
  • We Live and Breathe It - Builds strong relationships with internal customers by communicating clearly, confidently, and with empathy whist fostering the same approach within junior team members through guidance and example. Acts as a trusted escalation point, ensuring users feel supported and informed throughout the resolution process. Delivers high-quality customer service by explaining technical issues in accessible terms and using appropriate channels including email, instant messaging, and phone to provide timely, accurate updates.
