Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with Engineering, Production and other Project Team members, to review new product designs, advise on Design for Manufacture principles & support Production to meet their daily targets.
- Ensure the designs released to production are standardised, manufacturable and testable. This will involve attending Project Meetings, Design Reviews and DFM Reviews.
- Support prototype builds to highlight and resolve problems prior to full scale production.
- Submit Manufacturing plans, detailing layouts, process maps, cycle times, resourcing levels, tooling, capital equipment, facility upgrades and workstation setup.
- Lead the New Product Introduction Phase of the Design Process, ensuring that product quality, project timescales, cost targets, configuration and traceability requirements are met. This will also include training of Operations staff.
- Design and implement new production lines and facility layouts. This will include submissions for Capital Expenditure.
- Develop, design and implement Production Jigs, Fixtures and Tooling, to improve materials handling, standardisation and manufacturing efficiency.
- Calculate Work cell and production line balancing, by conducting Time & Motion studies and Value Stream Mapping.
- Create Routings on the Company ERP System, detailing process steps and standard times.
- Conduct root cause analysis of Non-Conformances and implement corrective actions.
- Manage equipment maintenance scheduling, to minimise production stoppages.
- Estimate costs, production times and staffing requirements for new designs. Follow up by monitoring production times to ensure published Product Costs are being achieved. Also investigate any anomalies that are highlighted.
- Developing and maintain work instructions, to ensure consistent standards are followed.
- Actively target scrap, rework and non-value-added activities. Achieving this by working with cross function teams, utilising Continuous Improvement methodologies
- Work with Procurement and Production Support to improve material flow and reduce inventory.
- Investigate new techniques and equipment to ensure the Company’s manufacturing philosophy incorporates current best practice.
- Support production, to assist achieving on-time delivery of customer orders. This will include attending production daily meetings, assisting on resolving any issues that may arise and minimising disruption to production.
- Follow Health and Safety procedures and address any Risks, in order to maintain a safe working environment.
Qualifications
- Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, or other Engineering discipline with significant manufacturing experience
- Continuous improvement techniques such as LEAN, Six-Sigma and TQM
- Work measurement and standardization
- Competency in ERP systems including development of routings and Bill of Materials structures
- Familiarity with 3D CAD drawing packages and competency in 2D CAD design
- Strong data analysis abilities
- Understanding of Engineering Change Control processes
- Interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and other documentation
- Experience managing small teams (desirable)
- Typically, a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in a related field and related experience
- Lean Six Sigma certification preferred
