Job Description

Currencycloud was acquired by Visa in December 2021. Our Senior Software Engineers are responsible for implementing an industry-leading API that has already processed over 50 billion USD of cross-border transactions for over 5 million end users, and is available to our clients 24x7. Our engineers are at the forefront of taking us forward to meet the demands of even greater scale.

Our stack runs on AWS as a set of distributed applications using Kubernetes and a microservice-led architecture. We are also utilising Kafka for our streaming and PACT for Contract testing.

What you'll get to do

• As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll play a key role within your cross functional team, taking responsibility for your services and the technology within them.
• These roles fit in to squads who are building out brand new parts to our payments platform, focusing on high availability, cloud native, microservice concepts.
• You'll get to work as the Lead Engineer in your squad, leading on discussions around technical direction and systems design, as well as mentoring more junior members of the team.

Our Tech Stack includes

• Object-oriented programming with Java (versions 11+), ideally Spring Boot
• Cloud-native applications on AWS, microservices, 12-factor principles, Kubernetes
• Docker, Kubernetes, ElasticSearch, log management systems, Datadog APM
• OpenAPI/Swagger specifications for boundaries between customers and products
• SQL databases; experience with large datastores
• AWS, Terraform, Docker familiarity; automation downstream
• Testing approaches (TDD, BDD, Contract Testing) with frameworks like JUnit, RSpec, Cucumber
• Agile development (Spotify-style Squads and Tribes)
• CI/CD pipelines, GitHub PR reviews
• Cross-team collaboration with Product Owners and QA

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years with an Advanced degree (Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years experience in Java Backend Development; strong Java 8+ and Spring/Spring Boot; Agile experience (Scrum or Kanban); expert knowledge of Docker, EKS, AWS, and Kafka; strong communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders; modern cloud-native architectures (high availability, microservices, 12-factor, CI/CD, observability); TDD/BDD/Contract testing; DevOps mindset; proven delivery of scalable, fault-tolerant solutions; self-starter with accountability; strong structure and attention to detail; openness to questioning status quo; excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable in scale-up environments.
