The role is based in our newly refurbished city centre office. You will assist in providing a wide range of structural engineering services within the Ridge multi-disciplinary design team, working on projects that span large industrial and commercial schemes to education, healthcare, defence projects, and smaller bespoke schemes. We work in the UK and internationally with clients including government bodies, schools/universities, contractors, developers and local authorities.

As part of our fully multi-disciplinary design approach, you will be responsible for providing a wide range of structural engineering services. You will be expected to work independently under the direction of the senior management team with opportunities for career development and for developing managerial skills.

Responsibilities

• Report to and take direction from senior management leading the structural engineering team.
• Represent Ridge in an external-facing role, managing projects from inception to completion, ensuring deliverables are issued on time, to the required quality, and within budget.
• Report on financial performance of projects and resourcing requirements to the senior management team; assist in managing team resources to implement commercial and business directions.
• Act as lead or sole designer as appropriate to project size and complexity; oversee outline schemes through to detailed design and production of technical deliverables.
• Carry out structural analysis and design in accordance with Eurocode suite; ensure designs are economical, sustainable, efficient and buildable.
• Oversee production of detailed design drawings; undertake checking of calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and other deliverables in line with QA procedures.
• Supervise and mentor junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices; contribute to their development.
• Undertake surveys/inspections and produce high-quality technical reports with recommendations; present findings to clients as needed.
• Check outgoing and incoming documents, including contractors’ proposal documentation.
• Conduct site visits during construction to resolve site queries, monitor progress and advise contractors.

Skills and Experience

• MEng/BEng recognised by the Engineering Council with substantial post-graduate experience in structural engineering.
• Chartered (or near chartered) and a member of IStructE or ICE.
• Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, including technical report writing.
• Experience in designing structures in concrete, steel, masonry and timber.
• Experience with Finite Element Design (Robot Structural Analysis or SCIA Engineer).
• Experience with 2D and 3D structural design packages (TEKLA Structural Designer, TEDDS, Masterseries, etc.).
• Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM) in a 3D environment.
• AutoCAD and Revit experience is beneficial but not essential.
• Experience across projects of varying size and complexity and familiarity with key building construction forms.
• UK experience in an external-facing role, undertaking surveys/inspections and assisting on site.
• Collaborative, confident and ambitious team player able to work with minimal supervision and use initiative.
• Good commercial awareness and experience in project running.
• Experience of sustainability in design and applying sustainable options in structural designs.
• Hold a current UK driving licence.
