Overview

Senior Testing Engineer (Principles) IRSE 1.3.180, 1.3.170. The Rail Engineering Projects Testing and Commissioning Team is an exciting and growing team, eager to grasp modern systems, processes and concepts, within the regulatory framework that we are required to work. We are seeking a motivated and organized person to join us and manage the principles testing of projects of all types, sizes and complexities. You will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and to use initiative whilst working within a highly regulated environment. Do you have excellent organization skills and the ability to communicate with staff at all levels? Do you have extensive experience, knowledge and understanding of signalling basics and how to test for compliance with them on a wide variety of interlocking? Reporting to the Testing and Commissioning Engineer (Principles), the work is split between fixed office-based design workstation testing and site based on projects and as such there may be a requirement to lodge away for extended periods of time and to work unsocial hours. You must hold a full UK driving license.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for the fundamentals testing and commissioning of new and altered signalling systems for major works testing of substantial signalling projects. Undertake testing duties within the scope of Certificate of Competency held.
  • Must Hold NR CofC and Must Hold IRSE License - Tester in Charge and Functional Tester IRSE License 1.3.190 / 1.3.170 or have held in the past few years.
  • Identify resource requirements for projects and ensure competent staff are utilized, briefing them on their work and responsibilities and ensuring necessary documentation is completed. Encourage and promote staff development. Deputies for the Testing & Commissioning Engineer (Principles).
  • Provide upward briefing of project principles testing status to T&CE and Project team as required. Ensure adherence to AtkinsRéalis rail standards, procedures, processes covering all engineering, safety, administrative and project requirements. Co-operate with quality, safety, and environmental objectives and contribute to continual improvement.
  • Manage Principles testing activities as part of the commissioning of signalling equipment to meet contract specifications, performance and safety parameters.
  • Prepare and check bids for accuracy and price for the basics testing portion of signalling projects. Contribute to continuous improvement of processes, procedures, innovations and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Experience in Railway Signalling Testing/Commissioning of projects of any size. IRSE License for Principles and Functional Tester. Thorough knowledge of the Network Rail Signal Works Testing Handbook.
  • Thorough knowledge of fundamentals testing requirements.
  • Substantial Railway Signalling experience, especially in Rules of signalling testing of Computer Based Interlocking schemes. Good knowledge of Railway Group NWR company standards. Good personnel management and communication skills. Able to work under pressure during intense periods of commissioning.
  • Able to deputize for the Testing & Commissioning Engineer (Principles). Willing to work flexibly and efficiently in support of the project. Able to contribute to the management team to provide development and future direction for the testing group.
