Software Engineer, Industry Placement

New Today

Overview

At Bending Spoons, we’re striving to build one of the all-time great companies. We pursue a strategy of acquiring digital businesses with untapped potential, leveraging our platform to make them successful, and reinvesting to strengthen our platform and acquire new businesses. Our approach combines investor-like capital allocation with hands-on operational execution. This is an opportunity to learn, make an impact, and progress your career at a high rate within a team that values high ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Master your toolkit. Work across diverse tech stacks to choose the right tools for each challenge. From monoliths to microservices, gRPC to REST APIs, Kubernetes to Docker, Python to Rust, demonstrating that the best choice is about purpose and impact, not trend.
  • Build stuff that matters. Regardless of seniority, you’ll have autonomy and ownership from ideation to execution, building software from the ground up and seeing how your code evolves into a product used at scale.
  • Simplify relentlessly. Turn complexity into simplicity by optimizing pipelines, writing maintainable code, and crafting minimalist architectures to enable scalable, future-proof solutions.

What we look for

  • Reasoning ability. You solve complex problems from first principles, structure ideas clearly, and focus on details that matter.
  • Drive. You are ambitious, take initiative, and hold yourself to a high standard.
  • Team spirit. You support the best idea, help your team, and act with reliability and transparency.
  • Proficiency in English. You read, write, and speak proficiently in English.

What we offer

  • Talented, entrepreneurial teams. Small, autonomous teams working with bright minds in the field.
  • Growth opportunities. We hire individuals with high potential and place them in roles where they can thrive; early-career Spooners can lead significant projects.
  • Competitive pay and equity options. Salary ranges vary by location and experience, with potential equity opportunities and relocation-related benefits in certain regions.
  • Comprehensive benefits. Flexible hours, remote work options, support for learning, health insurance, relocation assistance, parental support, and annual retreats.

The selection process

We may include tests designed to assess problem-solving approaches and a series of interviews. We set a high bar and will not extend an offer until we are convinced we have the right candidate. The role may stay open for months or be reposted.

Studies suggest that women often hesitate to apply if CVs are not a perfect fit; here, talent takes precedence over experience. If you like the role and believe you could be excellent in time, apply.

EEO & accommodations

Bending Spoons is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. We consider all applicants and provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities—please let us know through this form.

Before you apply

If you’ve applied before but didn’t receive an offer, we recommend waiting at least one year before applying again.

Bending Spoons is a demanding environment with high standards. We support rapid learning, achievement, and career growth, which requires significant commitment. To help you ramp up, we encourage spending your initial months in the Milan office, with travel and accommodation support; afterward, you may work from Milan or London offices, or remotely from approved countries, subject to offer-stage agreements.

If the role speaks to you and you’re ready to contribute your best, apply now—we’d love to meet you.
