Senior Software Development Manager – Newcastle upon Tyne

Our client is a newly formed joint venture between a leading global management consulting firm (within a Fortune 500 group) and a world-renowned alternative investment fund manager.

They are establishing a technology hub in Newcastle City Centre, bringing together exceptional talent to deliver innovative solutions, tackle complex problems, and set new standards for technical excellence in the region.

What you’ll do

In this senior leadership role, you will:

  • Define and drive technical strategy, setting standards for engineering excellence across multiple teams.
  • Lead, mentor, and scale high-performing development teams.
  • Translate complex business challenges into innovative, scalable technical solutions.
  • Influence architectural direction and oversee end-to-end delivery of mission-critical projects.
  • Work closely with senior business stakeholders, ensuring alignment of technology with strategic goals.
  • Shape the culture of the Newcastle hub, fostering learning, collaboration, and innovation.

What makes a strong candidate

  • Significant experience leading software development or engineering teams, ideally at Senior Manager or Head of Engineering level.
  • Strong technical foundations in C#/.NET, Java, or Python, with deep knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure or AWS).
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale projects in complex environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while keeping focus on long-term strategy.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of influencing at executive level.
  • Entrepreneurial and proactive, with a track record of building high-performing teams.
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field (postgraduate or professional certifications advantageous).
  • (Financial services experience is beneficial but not essential)
