Role
Why this role matters
You will join us as a Senior Telecoms Engineer at the SCADA & Telecoms department. In this role, you will work closely with Electrical, Cables and SCADA engineers together with our O&M and Digital teams to enable robust, long-range, and secure telecommunication for our offshore wind assets. You will work within project development ensuring safe, reliable and cost-effective solutions are deployed across our offshore wind assets.
What you will do
- Design, specify, review and deliver radio/telecoms systems for offshore wind farms.
- Evaluate, select, and integrate various radio technologies including LTE, 5G, Wi‑Fi, LoRa, UHF/VHF, and proprietary RF solutions.
- Belong to a central engineering function for offshore wind.
- Work in an agile environment supporting projects, offshore wind and team initiatives.
- Manage contractor/vendor deliveries.
- Manage the implementation and test of the selected telecoms solutions for our offshore wind farms.
- Assure the design and implementation of telecoms systems in accordance with international standards.
- Attend supplier factory acceptance testing and represent the company at offsite meetings.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to actively seek efficient designs and manage interfaces.
- Work with colleagues both locally and globally.
- Provide support and consultancy to other internal disciplines and teams.
- Work with procurement, quality and project engineering teams.
- Mentor junior or graduate engineers.
- Able to prioritize and monitor progress to meet schedules and budget.
Qualifications and experience
- Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication, Radio or a related Degree. Desirable Chartered Engineer or specific MSc.
- Strong knowledge of wireless communication protocols, digital signal processing, and RF systems.
- Familiarity with antenna design, propagation modeling, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- High technical experience in the discipline, with offshore wind experience, preferably.
- Experience in delivering major projects.
- Deep technical understanding of the discipline, understanding all the requirements, standards, interfaces and constraints required to develop the assessments and design the projects.
- Understanding of the commercial impact of the technical decisions, being able to take the technical decisions which maximise the global project benefits.
- Experience in negotiating technical aspects of the control system contracts and holding relationships with key suppliers.
- Friendly, self-motivated, independent and proactive.
