Thermal Systems Engineer - Propulsion SystemsThermal Systems Engineer - Propulsion Systems role at Tata Technologies. Based at the customer site in Gaydon.OverviewAs a Thermal System Engineer within the BEV/xHEV Propulsion Systems team, you will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of thermal management systems that support electrified powertrains. This includes battery cooling, e-motor and inverter thermal control, and integration with vehicle-level HVAC and thermal architectures. You will collaborate across cross-functional teams to ensure optimal thermal performance, efficiency, and reliability of propulsion systems.ResponsibilitiesLead the design and development of thermal systems for BEV and xHEV propulsion platformsDefine system-level thermal requirements and translate them into component specificationsPerform thermal simulations and analysis using tools such as GT-Suite, ANSYS, or MATLAB/SimulinkSupport integration of thermal systems with battery packs, power electronics, and electric drive unitsCollaborate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure component performance and complianceConduct DFMEA, DVP&R, and support validation testing at component and system levelsInterface with vehicle architecture, controls, and calibration teams to optimize thermal strategiesSupport prototype builds, rig testing, and vehicle-level commissioning activitiesContribute to continuous improvement and innovation in thermal system design and efficiencyKnowledge / ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Master’s preferred)Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanicsStrong experience with thermal systems in automotive or aerospace applicationsFamiliarity with electrified powertrain components and architecturesProficiency in thermal simulation tools and CAD software (e.g., CATIA, Creo)Knowledge of automotive development processes (V-cycle, APQP, etc.)Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks and deliver within tight timelinesPrior experience in BEV/xHEV propulsion system developmentExposure to battery thermal management and refrigerant-based cooling systemsUnderstanding of regulatory standards and safety requirements for high-voltage systemsExperience working in an Agile or model-based development environmentBenefitsPension Scheme – We match employee contribution up to 5% of salaryTata Jaguar Land Rover Privilege Scheme - up to 20% off new JLR vehiclesHealth Assured – Employee Assistance ProgramHealth Shield – Private Health Cash PlanAdditional notesIf you are passionate about bringing innovation to the projects you work on and want to join a global company, then this is the place for you.
