Associate Director - Substation Design Engineer - UK Grid Network at Jacobs. This role focuses on high‑voltage substation design and related energy infrastructure projects across the UK and Continental Europe.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the delivery of complex and high‑value energy infrastructure projects across the UK and Continental Europe.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to design and specify high-voltage (HV) substation plant and systems.
  • Support projects that span transmission assets, HVDC interconnectors, energy storage solutions, and facilities for mission-critical sectors.
  • Develop designs up to 400 kV from concept and FEED through to detailed design for construction.
  • Ensure technical excellence, compliance with client specifications, and adherence to health, safety and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with major clients (e.g., National Grid, SSEN) and interface with other engineering disciplines; contribute to a resilient and sustainable energy network.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline; Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or working towards chartered status.
  • Experience in electrical disciplines and delivering complex multi‑disciplinary projects.
  • Relevant experience in HV and LV substations (up to 400 kV); experience in preparing design calculations, reports, and detailed drawings.
  • CAD experience (AutoCAD or MicroStation) preferred but not essential.
