We're looking for an exceptional End User Computing Engineer to help us make a difference to our planet.
As our End User Computing Engineer, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

- Proactively managing and resolving tickets within support queues, owning incidents and tasks, and assisting with problem investigations to identify and support resolving root causes.
- Delivering outstanding customer service and support to internal Met Office staff through a customer driven approach that prioritises their needs and experience.
- Supporting modern Windows desktop environments, modern desktop management, hardware lifecycle projects, and broader End User Computing at the Met Office.
- Contributing to process improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in support activities, while ensuring procedures and support documentation remain current and relevant.
- Pursuing continuous professional development through hands-on experience, dedicated training time, and access to funded qualifications to support career growth and technical excellence.
- We operate an on-call roster in Technology to provide 24/7/365 support to respond to operational service requirements. This post may be part of an on-call roster and the postholder would be required to participate in an on-call roster where in operation.

As our End User Computing Engineer, your total reward package will be up to £40,480 annually, which includes:
- An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%
- Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) you will be paid £2,200 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2024 until March 2026 in your monthly pay
- Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave
Essential Criteria, skills and experience
- We\'re Experts by Nature - Experience with supporting hardware, software, and operating systems within a modern enterprise environment. Provide examples in at least four of the following technical areas, drawing upon professional work or relevant personal projects, hobbies, or interests where appropriate:
- Microsoft 365 & Modern Desktop Management - Supporting M365 services, Intune, Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint and Teams.
- ITSM Tools & ITIL Framework - Experience using ITSM platforms (e.g. ServiceNow) for incident management and operating within an ITIL-aligned service environment.
- Microsoft Operating Systems - Supporting Windows Clients (10, 11) and Windows Server (2016, 2019, 2022) infrastructure including virtualised environments.
- Hardware Support - Installing, maintaining, and supporting laptops, mobile devices, printers, and meeting room equipment, including hardware lifecycle activities.
- Active Directory - Managing Active Directory environments including ADUC, Group Policy, AD object and OU administration.
- Software Deployment & Lifecycle - Managing software packaging, deployment, and maintenance using tools such as Microsoft Configuration Manager (MCM) and Intune.
- Asset Management - Maintaining accurate IT asset records and working closely with the Asset Management team to support effective tracking and utilisation across the organisation.
- We Keep Evolving - Demonstrates ownership of incidents and tasks by applying logical, methodical thinking and excellent attention to detail. A fast learner with the ability to quickly understand and resolve technical problems independently, while also recognising when to escalate or seek support. Committed to identifying root causes and contributing to long-term solutions.
- We\'re Better Together - Able to work independently to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, while also collaborating effectively with colleagues across the team and other support functions when required. Demonstrates ownership and initiative in both support and project work, maintaining a user focus and ensuring deadlines are met without compromising quality.
- We Live and Breathe It - Demonstrates a strong customer focus by actively listening, communicating, and building positive relationships. Uses appropriate communication channels including email, instant messaging, and phone to keep users informed with timely, accurate updates throughout the resolution process. Able to explain technical issues in a way that\'s accessible to non-technical users, ensuring they feel supported and well-informed.
