Join to apply for the OHL (Overhead Line) Engineer (Energy) role at WSP in the UK & Ireland.

In the role of Engineer working on Overhead Transmission Line projects, you will be responsible for supervising a team of design engineers specializing in Overhead Transmission Lines. This team will be working on a variety of projects ranging from 11kV to 400kV.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical evaluations and problem-solving guidance to team members.
  • Prepare written proposals outlining project timelines, resource allocation, budgets, objectives, and goals.
  • Offer technical guidance throughout project implementation, statutory planning, and participation in Public Consultation events.
  • Lead engineering and design activities related to overhead lines, including PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, structure analysis and loading trees, designing criteria, sag-tension calculations, insulator/conductor considerations, swing angles, damper system recommendations, structure spotting, clearance reports, conductor and insulator selection, etc.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, assess conductor thermal ratings, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Undertake studies to identify the technically preferred solution/layout to present to the Client.
  • Participate in industry working groups such as CIGRE and IEEE.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline, preferably Electrical or Power Engineering.
  • Prior experience in overhead line engineering up to 400kV.
  • Experience on upgrading projects such as High Temperature Low Sag conductors.
  • Desirable – PLS CADD/POLE/TOWER.
  • Knowledge of galloping studies, EMF and Field Effects Calculation, Wake effect, AC Interference for gas pipelines is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as projects dictate.
