Overview

FM Conway is currently seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to join our Consultancy division. As our Principal Engineer, you will lead a team of designers and inspectors with a primary focus on highway structures. In this role, you will provide technical leadership, ensure successful project delivery, and support team development within a collaborative, safety-focused environment. You will also oversee technical direction, coordinate with clients, contractors, and FM Conway divisions, including Term Maintenance, Structures, and Lighting and address technical issues as they arise. This is a full time, permanent position based from our Head Office in Sevenoaks, Kent.

Responsibilities

• Developing a team of structural designers and inspectors, promoting continuous improvement and professional growth
• Developing excellent and effective collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and external providers
• Overseeing the planning, designing, and delivery of highway structures projects, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards
• Carrying out monthly programme and financial reporting
• Liaising with the client team on progress
• Preparing reports, drawings, schedules, bills of quantities, cost estimates and other documents in accordance with local procedures

Qualifications

• Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or an equivalent professional status
• Significant experience in structural engineering and experience leading a team of engineers
• Familiar with local government and private sector clients, with good working knowledge of different contract types, including NEC3
