Role: Senior Security Engineer (Microsoft Estate)

Location: Manchester

Overview

We\'re currently looking for a Senior Security Engineer on behalf of one of the North West\'s most prominent tech companies, with strong experience in securing Microsoft estates, particularly across Identity, Access, and Compliance domains.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain secure architectures across Microsoft technologies (Entra ID/Azure AD, Azure, Office 365).
  • Lead initiatives to harden and secure End User Compute environments (Windows, Intune, Defender, etc).
  • Maintain and continuously improve identity and access management controls, including conditional access, MFA, role-based access, and privileged identity management.
  • Collaborate with SOC analysts to improve detection and response capabilities — acting as a bridge between engineering and operations.
  • Contribute to compliance and audit initiatives by ensuring policies and configurations align with internal standards and frameworks (e.g., ISO, NIST).
  • Support incident response and threat hunting by providing deep technical knowledge of Microsoft environments.
  • Manage and enhance tooling related to security posture management and continuous monitoring.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience securing Microsoft environments
  • Azure security controls (NSGs, Defender for Cloud, Sentinel, etc)
  • Microsoft 365 security (Defender for Endpoint, DLP, Purview, etc)
  • Solid understanding of identity and access management, compliance tooling, and configuration management.
  • Experience hardening EUC environments (Windows 10/11, Intune, GPO, Defender policies).
  • Familiarity with SOC operations, including detection engineering, SIEM tuning, and security monitoring.
  • Comfortable bridging between engineering and analysis – translating operational requirements into technical controls and vice versa.
